Protest over South Carolina flag grows after large rally

In Columbia a Martin Luther King Day rally drew about 46,000 people demanding removal of the Statehouse Confederate flag. State Rep. Joe Neal said the crowd aimed to sway lawmakers, while officials noted little likely impact on the 170 legislators voting on a flag resolution.

South Carolina colleges seek 92 million in new funds

The Higher Education Commission seeks 92 million in state money to cover shortfalls from last year. Campus leaders including Dr. Robert Alexander of USC Aiken praise investment. Two Fatal Crashes Kill Three In Aiken County

Aiken County records three deaths from two Monday crashes. An Edgefield man Mitchell E. Smith, 31, and his 3 month old son Dylan Smith died in a head on collision on Highway 19 with a tractor-trailer. Smith’s widow Mary Smith suffered a broken leg and was treated at MCG. Savannah resident Richard Harold Ellis, 76, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital.
