Temperatures rise to the mid 50s tomorrow afternoon with overnight lows in the lower 20s in Aiken County. Today's high near 50. Rain chances near zero through Thursday, then variable clouds and cooler conditions with a chance of rain Friday through Sunday. Betty received three years with five years probation while Lenwood got four years in prison the stiffest sentence of the day.
The Labor Department reports December wholesale prices fell five-tenths of a percent due to cheaper agricultural goods, offsetting a small rise in industrial commodities. Despite the December dip, 1974 wholesale prices rose 20.9 percent, the largest yearly gain since 1946.
Gov. James B. Edwards in his inaugural address promised a Republican administration marked by openness and accountability. He outlined priorities including ethics legislation home rule tax reform and health care and education reforms to widen access to quality care and guarantee opportunities at all levels.
Cambodian military officials say 173 Khmer Rouge insurgents were killed in attacks around the besieged Neak Luong on the Mekong River. The army reports capturing large quantities of insurgent war materials near the naval base town 32 miles southeast of Phnom Penh.
