North Augusta Preps for River Drawdown Test Plan
City officials detail a Savannah River drawdown test by the Army Corps of Engineers to assess decommissioning the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam. The study forecasts about a five foot water drop at The Rapids and a shoreline widening of up to 30 feet, with costs up to 15000 dollars and measures to protect the water intake and canal flow. The Corps could open gates, keep the dam, or seek reauthorization for secondary uses, all requiring local sponsorship for operations.
