South Carolina pawn shop owner pleads guilty to gun sale

Larry Mickalis of Summerville admitted a federal weapons charge for illegally selling a rifle to an ex convict. He received two years probation after pleading guilty to failing to keep proper firearms sales records. The case links to a Bloomberg led suit alleging straw purchases and arms trafficking to New York crimes.

County takes over shelter temporarily in Conway

Horry County will temporarily run the county animal shelter while the Humane Society reorganizes after a canine distemper outbreak. County officials say the society is in disarray after five employees were fired or quit in a month. The shelter reopened after being closed since December 8 when the outbreak forced euthanizing more than 100 dogs.
