Judge orders Indiana KKK leader to pay news crew
US Magistrate Roger B. Cosbey ordered Jeff Berry to pay $60,000 to reporter George M. Sells IV and $60,000 to camerawoman Heidi Thiel of WHAS-TV for detaining them and seizing interview tapes after a November 1999 interview about a Butler, Indiana based Ku Klux Klan rally. The ruling cites theft and conspiracy charges. Berry, 47, says he will appeal. The case involves the American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and the Southern Poverty Law Center representing the journalists.
