Couple charged in toddler death in Aiken County

Roy Morris Jr and Shannon Weeks, both held without bond, face murder and child abuse charges in the death of 15 month old Brittany Nicole Weeks. The child was brought to an Augusta hospital with blunt force trauma and died there after 20 hours. Authorities say the two were arrested after the 911 call from their New Ellenton home. The case prompts ongoing investigations by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services.

Four juveniles charged in Valley burglary spree

Four youths were arrested after a rash of vandalism and burglaries in the Valley area, including Jefferson Elementary and nearby facilities. William Kenneth Goggans, 17, faces multiple counts. three younger suspects, ages 15 and 16, are charged with varying degrees of burglary, larceny and property damage. The incidents involved broken windows, overturned desks, paint, fire extinguishers, and cut electricity. Police say the investigation spanned Jefferson Elementary, LBC Middle, Bath Post Office, Merchandise Mart Clearwater, and a Bath outbuilding burglary.

Controlled burn in Hitchcock Woods aims to curb wildfire risk

Aiken officials report a planned 50 acre controlled burn in Hitchcock Woods this week with possible follow up burns today and Saturday if conditions permit. The low intensity flames are described as a preventive measure by Pete Frommer and Gary Burger to reduce future wildfire danger.
