New Council Members Sworn In at Aiken County Meeting
At the Aiken County Council session Democrat Marilyn Smith and Republican Mike Toole were sworn in as new council members. Incumbents Medwell Hill and Fay Hatcher won re election. Hatcher was elected vice chair for a one year term. The council approved a 4 percent residential property tax assessment pause and directed staff to track qualifying taxpayers amid a November 1981 resolution. Architectural updates for the Judicial Center were outlined with bids and bond timing to follow. The travel budget for the Election Commission was raised, while a full time secretary was declined.
