Dry weather fuels brush fires near Beech Island and Monetta

Firefighters from Beech Island with six departments and the US Forest Service fought a 50 acre blaze off Storm Branch Road in Beech Island, with two separate fires likely starting objects. Crews from North Augusta New Ellenton Bath Langley Jackson and Clearwater aided. A controlled burn followed to prevent future fires. Inspector Turno notes extreme dryness raising brush fire risk and urges burn permits and caution. A second fire near Monetta burned about 12 acres of hay fields.
