Aiken Red Cross Faces Cash Crunch From Ice Storm Aid
The Aiken Area Chapter of the Red Cross faces a fundraising need after about $10,000 in cash expenses from the ice storm. The Salvation Army sheltered residents at Gayle Avenue and Park Avenue locations, kept a kitchen operating, and sent canteens to smaller towns. Demand for food rose as frozen items thawed, with about 200 daily calls, while donations of canned goods and meat are sought to restock depleted supplies.
