DOE Study Questions Barnwell Plant Operating Risks
Rep. Butler Derrick says an Energy Department study questions the advisability of operating the Barnwell South Carolina nuclear fuel reprocessing plant while seeking more funding. The January edition of World wide Nuclear Power notes high outage risks from startup. Construction began in 1974 and halted in 1976. $64 million already spent with $10 million requested for FY 1983.
