Dewey Ennis of Ennis Tree Service rescued a tabby stuck for six days in a tall pine on Pineland Terrace. He climbed 70 feet in a cherry picker, lassoed the cat, and lowered it to safety, saying he rescues for love and that the Lord sees to his needs.
The Aiken County Board of Education meets at 7 30 PM at Midland Valley High School Langley to discuss a federally funded summer migrant program at Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary School with a requested 58472 dollars and additional items including tutor program tutors and stadium maintenance policy.
Congressional leaders discuss raising personal income taxes by up to 37 billion dollars to help reduce the projected deficit in Reagan's 1983 budget. Stockman defends the plan as lawmakers explore bipartisan revisions including higher taxes and scaled back Social Security increases.
Ernie Allen plant manager of Peppe Ridge Farm Bakery in the Aiken Verenes Industrial Park told the Aiken Rotary Club that each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon the bakery offers baked goods at reduced prices in a pot luck style. Aiken City Council approved a contract with Robert E. Marvin to design a master plan for 10 acres of Rye Patch, the former Rogers estate next to Hopeland Gardens. The plan will be phased to allow funding, with no tax funds used, and existing Hopeland Gardens funds may cover the Rye Patch study.
Aiken County Planning Commission urged the County Council to keep the planning panel independent of day to day control. Members and staff praised collaborative goals like industrial development and county maps while weighing legal issues and possible joint city county planning options.
