South Aiken Rotary heard attorney James Whittle discuss 18 years in practice including work as a public defender. He recalled defending a death penalty case from 1981 to 1991, the low pay, and public misperceptions about judges and pay. Whittle stressed the appointment system’s importance and cited a 16 year old facing potential life for burglary. The 30-member club, led by Ray Jackson and Yul Holloway, meets Thursdays at 12:30 pm.
