Iraqis pray for peace as Annan arrives in Baghdad
In Baghdad on the Muslim Sabbath, Iraqis prayed for peace while UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived to press Iraq to open eight presidential sites to experts. A senior cleric warned against peace on American terms, urging an independent deal. Inspectors entered Saddam Hussein palaces with limited access, a first since last fall, as the UN maps off-limits areas. Annan planned talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and possibly Saddam Hussein.
