Durban to retire from banking in Aiken after 16 years
George A. Durban longtime manager of the Aiken branch of American Bank & Trust Co will retire March 1 to devote himself to real estate and insurance. He came to Aiken in 1910 joining First National Bank and later Gaston Bank & Trust Co before helping build American Bank & Trust Co’s Aiken operation. Durban also ran George A. Durban & Co and Laird's Inc, pursuing insurance.

Capt. Thomas Washington Coward, one of the first conductors on the old South Carolina railroad from Charleston to Hamburg, turned ninety four on February 11. He recalls wooden rails with iron strips and two brakes, and the Battle of Aiken with Gen Joe Wheeler in Confederate service.

McCracken Founder of Aiken Recorder Dies at 73
J E McCracken of McCormick died at his home Tuesday morning in his 74th year. One of the founders of the old Aiken Recorder he published there for 15 years. He had lived in McCormick since 1903 and for the last ten years with his daughter Mrs Louisa Lang. He was buried at McCormick last Thursday.
