Andrew Moseley son of White Moseley of Redds Branch was seriously injured Wednesday on Courtney road several miles from Aiken. He was on a fertilizer load when a telephone line wire caught him under the chin, throwing him to the pavement and causing brain concussion. He remains unconscious with possible paralysis and doctors Hastings H. Wyman and John Frampton Wyman fear for his recovery. He is brother to Ed Moseley, who was shot and killed by another brother, William Moseley, near Aiken last Sunday.
Mrs Jane Hoover aged about 45 residing on the Edisto River near Wagener took strychnine poison early Sunday morning and died by her own action. She leaves four children. Funeral services were held Monday. Her husband William Hoover drowned in the Edisto River near Greene's bridge about two years ago. No motive for the act is known.
The Beech Island home of B Warren Fair built over 50 years ago by Dr W E Eve in colonial style was totally destroyed by a Sunday morning fire around 9 oclock. Community rescue efforts saved most of the family furniture with losses around 12000 dollars and partial insurance coverage.
Last night at the Masonic and Odd Fellows hall in Graniteville the Bettis Academy choir performed spiritual hymns for the academy's benefit. Sponsored by George Lieber of the Graniteville Manufacturing Co and other interested citizens, the event drew a large audience. Mrs. W. H. Croghan has returned to Williston after a weekend with Mrs. J. Cleveland Thomas and Mrs. S. A. Wise.
Representative Harley and S L Love push a legislative inquiry into gasoline pricing citing alleged oil company discrimination against South Carolina. Aiken Chamber coordinates with other towns to compare prices and seek adjustments. The plan proposes a five member committee with subpoena power and an $8088 appropriation.
Col. J. E. Harley, Barnwell representative, introduces two anti trust style bills to curb unfair discrimination in gasoline Sales. A judiciary committee hearing was set for Tuesday with anticipated testimony from oil company representatives.
Appointed as receivers by court order Judge Hayne F assumed charge of the affairs of Gaston Bank and Trust Co after an audit by the state bank examiner. Receivers Johnson and Jordan will pursue vigorous collections to wind up the bank and aim to pay a dividend to depositors at the earliest possible moment. George A. Durban will be retained as agent of the receivers.
The Aiken Theatre installs a Triple Reflecting Arc Lamp boosting brightness by 75 percent notes manager Welborn. The new lamp promises a sharper projection and higher quality entertainment for local residents and winter visitors, marking a forward step in regional cinema offerings.
Fred L. Weatherford of Jordantown, a middle aged man, drowned when his mule backed the buggy into Langley Pond dam. The buggy toppled over the edge, Weatherford fell in, the mule swam to safety. His widow and several children survive. The brother in law escaped death. The body was recovered about three hours later from about 25 feet of water.
News from Aiken confirms Rev Neal Cannon son of Mr and Mrs James T Cannon of Aiken and Cynthiana Ky formerly joined the Methodist Conference in Texas has been chosen by Bishop Hay to become senior pastor of St Pauls Church in Houston. St Pauls is among the strongest congregations in the Southern Methodist Connection with a new Sunday school under construction at a cost of a quarter million dollars.
In Friday morning raid on a 180 gallon capacity steamer distillery, Sheriff Robinson and deputies arrested R. H. Fox a well known white farmer. Four other white men found at work fled into swamps but were identified as Alie Munday Everett Munday M B Smith and Clarence Scott warrants issued for their arrests.
J E Stansfield traveled to Barnwell on business Monday, according to the brief report.
Will Rogers will visit Aiken for a Sunday night talk after church services. He agrees to perform for free if local supporters host a benefit to raise funds for the library. The winter residents and townsfolk will attend a rare appearance by the famed humorist at the local venue.
