Aiken sewer rates eyed for Horse Creek plant upgrade
The planned 50 million upgrade at the Horse Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant could raise wholesale charges, eventually appearing on Aiken County sewer bills as a rate increase. County administrator Clay Killian says final numbers depend on construction costs, with early estimates not exceeding 2 dollars per 1,000 gallons. Aiken currently charges 1.25 per 1,000 gallons with no per-user base. Other counties show higher base fees and per-thousand rates. The county touts some of the lowest wholesale wastewater rates in the state while awaiting further cost analysis.
