Dollar climbs as gold weakens amid Iraq war uncertainty

In European trading the US dollar rose versus major currencies while gold dropped sharply as investors weighed a possible US led war on Iraq. The euro traded around $1.07 and the pound near $1.62 as France Germany and Belgium vetoed a NATO plan to bolster Turkey defense.
