Sharon and Barak discuss coalition as Psagot clashes flare
Prime Minister elect Ariel Sharon and his predecessor Ehud Barak met to discuss forming a joint government despite sharp disagreements over peace with the Palestinians. Overnight fighting near Psagot and El Bireh damaged several buildings including the Konrad Adenauer Foundation offices and Red Crescent. Sharon offered Barak the defense minister post. Park Service says gifts Clinton returned were government property
The National Park Service found that sofas chairs lamps and other home furnishings taken by former President Clinton and Hillary Clinton were White House property not personal gifts. About 28 000 worth of items were shipped from Chappaqua New York to a Maryland warehouse after donors claimed they were White House gifts. The Clintons declined comment and Clinton spokesman said White House gift office identified each item as a gift to them. No clerical errors found in listing items meant for the White House.
