The fall in world oil prices lowers regular gasoline to below 1 dollar per gallon at many South Carolina stations. Economists warn the trend may not immediately affect drivers due to a lag between crude oil and refined fuel prices. The South Carolina General Assembly passed a resolution to rename the entire stretch of U S Highway 52 across Florence and Williamsburg counties the Ronald McNair Highway. In the Canadian Rockies near Hinton Alberta a Via Rail passenger train collided with a freight train. Authorities say 30 to 40 people died and 80 were injured with 101 to 120 passengers aboard. Seven of 24 crew members were missing as wreckage blocked single track.
