Bernadette Chayrez in Tucson fights for life as doctors implant a Jarvik-70 artificial heart for a second time after a transplanted heart failed from infection. The nine hour operation followed the replacement of her initial Jarvik-70 pump which had kept her alive four days.
Federal agents uncovered more than 1 million dollars in gold coins concealed in Tupperware in a Nebraska field. The coins were located using a map found in the Hawaii home of William Compton Musson, who owned the land where they were buried. Musson and two others were indicted in Denver on cocaine smuggling charges alleging 850 pounds of cocaine taken in from 1976 to 1982 for about 4 million dollars.
The forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain tomorrow with a low in the mid 40s. Partial clearing is expected with a 40 percent rain chance and a high near 50 degrees. Details appear on page 10A.
