A US Air Force C130 carries the 30 000 year old caveman remains named Pipo to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington for study after discovery in a northern Spain cave near Santander. The two ton package will land at Andrews Air Force Base Maryland after a stop in the Azores before return to Spain.
The Tricentennial tour schedule expands with added stops at St. Angela Academy and Laughlin garden on Feb 14. Tours start at St. Thaddeus parish house with guides from the academy and garden hosts. Tickets cost 1 and lunch is 1.50, proceeds support the new Aiken County museum.

In Saigon the 24 hour allied cease-fire for Tet ended tonight with preliminary reports of at least 91 enemy attacks. At least 117 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese were reported killed or wounded in the reopening clashes.
Five Aiken High School students, three boys and two girls, were arrested by city police for illegal possession of narcotics. The capsules, totaling 100 mg of sodium pentobarbital known as yellow jackets, were taken from a local veterinarian’s office and distributed at the school. The oldest suspect is 17, and a trial date was set for February 19 before Judge Howard Williamson.

A federal judge grants a 30 day injunction allowing women to bartend in Chicago amid a suit by 17 would be female barkeeps challenging a city ban. Judge James B. Parsons continues the case to Feb 27 for a hearing on a permanent injunction.
In Seneca Falls New York a 10 ton straw load on James Laird’s truck caught fire. He drove three miles to Junius firehouse while smoke trailed behind the vehicle. Firemen extinguished the flames though the day was largely lost. the truck’s main body suffered only minor damage.
Federal appeals judge Frank M. Coffin of the 1st Circuit, a South Portland native, is named the Edwin T. Dahlbert Peace Award recipient for 1970 for his work with the Overseas Development Council. The honor will be presented at the convention in Cincinnati in May.
