Humphrey calls for immediate halt to Safeguard system
Sen Hubert H Humphrey urged an immediate suspension of the Safeguard antiballistic missile and multiple warhead systems in a Senate floor speech. He was shown earlier listening to drugs hearing as a member of the Senate monopoly subcommittee. A Chinese delegation led by Hsu Chung-fu was greeted at a train station by Arthur Andrew, Canada's diplomat. Andrew, then Canada's ambassador to Sweden, helped negotiate in Stockholm for China’s diplomatic recognition and Hsu will serve as Charge d affaires in Ottawa until a full ambassador is named in the spring.
