Rattlers Record Breaker At Whigham Roundup
Three Whigham teenagers captured the largest diamondback rattlesnake in 11 years at the Whigham roundup. The 11 pound 7 ounce rattler was nabbed Saturday by brothers Joe and Jet Cox ages 14 and 17 and Johnny Lodge 17.

Oil Well Under Control Off Louisiana Coast
Shell Oil Co. brought another burning well under control on its platform ten miles off the Louisiana coast. It is the fourth well to be controlled since the December 1 explosion that set fire to a 22 well platform and killed four men. Relief wells are being drilled to halt production in four more wells.

Queen Wounded During Tiger Hunt In Nepal
Queen Ratna of Nepal was shot in the stomach and hand by a ricocheting bullet during a tiger hunt. The 42 year old queen underwent surgery after a 300 mile flight from Kanchanpur where she and her husband had been on an official tour. doctors report she is making satisfactory progress.

Harness Race Date Moved Up To March 6 In Aiken

Israeli Raiders Hit Arab Villages in Lebanon Raid
Israeli raiding parties attacked two villages in south Lebanon during the night. An Israeli soldier was killed and three wounded, with Arabs casualties reported. Guerrilla sources claimed 15 Israeli dead or wounded and said the fighters were on maximum alert at Al-Kyam.

Debbie Williamson, a junior at Aiken High School, won the 1971 Aiken Miss Junior Miss title at a Friday pageant in Aiken Junior High School. She is daughter of Mr and Mrs J C Williamson of 807 Legare Road. Ruth Cate and Peggy Fowler were runners up. Addison Perry named Miss Personality. Cate tied with Joy Jarrier for talent. Williamson led in scholastic achievement and evening gown. Her winning piece highlighted sewing and performing arts.

Eight Americans Killed In Communist Raids In Vietnam
Eight Americans were killed and 25 wounded in six attacks by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces in central and northern South Vietnam. The worst strike hit a reconnaissance team near Chu Lai, killing seven and wounding seven, the largest U.S. ground casualties in over six months. Attacks also hit Da Nang, Cam Ranh Bay, Tuy Hoa, a Cam Ranh helicopter unit, and an artillery base near Pleiku.
