North Augusta man charged in Augusta woman murder
John Henry Thomas aged 27 of North Augusta is charged with the murder of Ann Matilda Sumpter 36 in a Sand Bar Ferry Road dispute at the Jones Package Shop. Sumpter died after being shot in the chest following an argument about 2:30 a.m. at University Hospital pronounced at 4:25 a.m.

Break‑in Strikes Aiken Education Center Victims Vandalized
A weekend break-in at the Aiken County Education Center damaged two vending machines lockers and an office and stole an undetermined amount from machines. A desk was ransacked in a shop area. In a separate incident Mayor H Odell Weeks reported his car windshield broken while parked in his yard with $150 in damage.

Fire Destroys Aiken Mobile Home
A mobile home at Carrie Thomas on Rt. 4 Aiken burned Friday morning. The fire started in the kitchen around 10 30 a m. cause undetermined. Center Fire Department units arrived by 10 42 a m. No injuries reported.
