The Aiken Standard will observe Christmas Day by closing Thursday December 25 so all employees may be with their families. The paper will publish the afternoon of Christmas Eve and Friday afternoon the day after Christmas.
Aiken police urge merchants to watch for stolen Edward M. Brown Co checks last week two checks cashed by a man named James H White the signatures forged. Checks drawn on South Carolina National Bank relate to the East Aiken air conditioning firm on Charleston highway.
City Manager Roland H. Windham announced the regularly scheduled City Council meeting for December 22 will start at 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
Eight Santa Clauses and four Eskimos linked to the Brotherhood of Father Christmas faced court on charges of obstructing the highway in London. They were bound over on 120 pounds bail each, three women among the militants, and pleaded innocent.
In Columbus Ohio five city policemen and an alleged numbers operator were acquitted of gambling conspiracy charges by a nine and three woman jury. The court had earlier dismissed charges against three officers for lack of evidence after prosecution testimony. Jurors indicated they could not reach a unanimous verdict previously.
Federal judge Louis Rosenburg ordered the Western Pennsylvania school district to stop reading the Holy Bible and reciting the Lord's Prayer in schools. The injunction came after a suit by a parent of two teens. readings had been reinstated last March 17 amid objections in the coal region. The ruling states the practice is unconstitutional under the First Amendment, though students may use religious texts as reference material if they choose.

Entry was gained through wooden pallets at the rear and the vehicle exit appeared from the back door. deputies noted limited details as the investigation continued.
South Carolina Education Association reports migration of teacher graduates costs the state about 21 million dollars yearly. Aiken County officials note the hardest year yet in staffing as 1 752 graduates in 1966 produced only 796 in teaching the next year. North Vietnam’s chief negotiator Xuan Thuy’s substitute Col Ha Van Lau accuses President Nixon of a scheme to sabotage the Paris peace talks. Lau condemns Nixon for delaying delegation leadership, seeks a Pax Americana, and attacks Sir Robert Thompson as a colonialist ally.
