Washington AP reports the swine flu immunization program may be dead even if the vaccine is cleared of a link to a paralytic disease. Public confidence is shaken and a restart may come too late in the influenza season, according to Dr. Theodore Cooper of HEW.
President elect Carter to interview Joan Manley of Time Inc and Dr Juanita Kreps of Duke University for cabinet roles with Mondale and AFL CIO officials present. Carter already named three men to cabinet posts and dined with Rosalynn and Amy in Americus near Plains.
Doctors expect Gary Gilmore to recover from a second phenobarbital overdose and be fit for a firing squad on January 17. Utah State Prison and sheriff investigators probe how he obtained enough pills to render him unconscious for the second time in 30 days. A guard found him comatose in his cell and he was rushed to University of Utah Medical Center in critical condition.
Prime Minister Takeo Miki quits to assume responsibility for the Liberal Democratic party setback. Takeo Fukuda, a 71 year old economist, is set to be elected party leader and prime minister as MPs choose a successor on December 23 and the Diet approves the new leader the following day.
Morton Halperin, ex top Nixon aide, says his court win over Nixon in a wiretap case shows a president cannot ignore the Constitution for national security. He may be the first private citizen to win damages from a president, and sees the ruling as a check on future government surveillance abuses.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates join a 5 percent price rise plan for oil, breaking the OPEC unity as 11 members push for a 15 percent hike. Yamani signals output will surge to enforce the lower rise while other members resist. The split shatters cartel conformity and could complicate world oil trade and US gasoline prices.
The graduation program featured 89 graduates from the adult education program. Keynote speaker Mrs. Oscar A. Towler Jr. from the Aiken County Board of Education urged graduates to build on the milestone and maintain learning enthusiasm despite a rapidly changing world.

B Henderson Johnson said he would relay audience thoughts to the board focusing on accreditation accelerated courses and a proposed second Aiken High School. Louis Lewis led questions criticizing admin costs and lack of superintendent attendance while urging broader program cutbacks if finances require reductions.
