Engineers at Savannah River Plant accelerate a 40 million project to finish an 1,000 acre cooling lake within eight months to treat 170 degree water discharged from L-Reactor. The lake will receive 170,000 gallons per minute ensuring compliance ahead of October restart.
The forecast calls for a sunny and mild day tomorrow with a high in the upper 60s. Tonight will be chilly with a low in the upper 30s. Thursday through Saturday show partly cloudy skies with highs in the 60s Thursday and the 50s Saturday. Lows will range from the 30s to the lower 40s across Thursday to Saturday.

The exhibit includes a leather-seated chair and a lard bucket and silverware from memorable finds.
Aiken County moves jail management from the sheriff to the county council in a transition effective January first. Officials say no staff layoffs will occur if employees perform well, and the change could reduce county spending over time.
Aiken County Sheriff Lt. Bo Reardon said the escapee Frank Green Jr. 25, from Saluda or Sumter, vanished after a court break and leaped from a 15 to 20 foot ledge beside the courthouse on Chesterfield Street. Investigators track the trail to Marion Street rail line where dogs lost the scent. He is not deemed extremely dangerous, and a wide Southeast agency alert is in effect.
Generosity grows for the needy in Aiken County as donations to local Christmas drives rise. The Aiken Jaycees report 1353.25 for the Shopping Tour, Salvation Army Cheer Fund at 21042.72, and Valley Empty Stocking Fund at 8753.79. Donations can be mailed to respective fund addresses and volunteers will man kettles at local banks and centers.
