Marvin Baughman elected Wagener mayor by 178 votes
Building contractor and former acting mayor Marvin Baughman won Wagener’s mayoral race with 178 votes, defeating Gordon R. Carmody who had 31. Incumbent Frank W. Gantt chose not to run again. Council seats also decided with Louis J. Evans 109 to 98 over Pansy C. Lybr for Seat 2, and John Q. Hudson Jr. 136 to 71 over Koster R. Brown for Seat 4.

Three Guilty Of Million Dollar Pot Growth
Three men from the Wilmington area were convicted by an Aiken County jury of trafficking in marijuana for growing an estimated one million dollars worth of pot near Kitchings Mill. The nine jurors deliberated under an hour after evidence showed funds, a farm, and planted fields across March to May.

Escapee Frank Green Jr Captured Hours After Court Escape
Aiken County deputies and Williston officers arrested Frank Green Jr less than a day after he fled the Aiken County Courthouse by prying a window screen and slipping from a holding cell. Bloodhounds followed him to Marion Street before the trail was lost. He received an additional six months to his larceny sentence for the escape.
