Sen. Edmund S. Muskie will use a ten minute national telecast on January 4 to announce his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. Aides say the Maine senator will make the formal declaration for the presidency during the broadcast.
Vice President Agnew presents NASA Distinguished Service Medal to Apollo 15 crew David R. Scott Alfred Worden and James Irwin. NASA calls the mission the most complex and carefully planned scientific expedition in exploration history.
Industrialist Howard Hughes, believed elusive, has spent the last year touring the western hemisphere and transcribing his autobiography on tapes for publication next March. McGraw Hill announced it acquired world publishing rights to a 230000 word manuscript created with Clifford Irving, with release planned in book form.
Mary Cummings seeks more alimony and child support from ex husband actor Robert Cummings. IRS has seized about 500000 in community property. she claims he has not paid 1100 monthly support and alimony. She cites needed 3887 monthly to cover living costs for five children, two grown.

Mrs. Fred A H McMurray Sr of Charleston, mother of an Army pilot missing since his 1968 shoot down, said they want to provide each other moral support.

American fighter-bombers dodged surface to air missiles and attacked a radar site in three clashes north of the demilitarized zone near the Vietnam Laos border. The strikes bring this year’s air attacks on North Vietnam to eighty seven. No U.S. losses or damage were reported.

Richard Russell won Jackson town council seat in a special election to replace resigning Councilman Robert Messer. He received 168 votes to 95 for Catherine Hiatt and was sworn in Tuesday night by Mayor Jarrell Brown.
Unseasonably warm weather continues in South Carolina for a fifth day with sunny skies and highs near 70. Tonight remains fair with lows in the upper 40s, and Thursday stays partly cloudy and mild with little chance of rain. The extended outlook shows a chance of showers in western areas Friday to Sunday with highs in the 60s and lows around 40s.
Aiken County five death row inmates Dennis Davis Gary Faust Osgood Leland William Holland and Bruce Poe had the October electrocution set for December 10 postponed indefinitely as their appeals proceed. The men were convicted in the June 18 Belvedere clubhouse murder of Thomas Bolin and are held at the stateCorrectional Institution pending review.
