Rehnquist Vote Set as Senate Debates Closure

The Senate will vote Friday on a Republican move to end debate on William H. Rehnquist's Supreme Court nomination and push a confirmation vote. President Nixon nominated Rehnquist, an assistant attorney general, after Richmond attorney Lewis F. Powell Jr. was confirmed to fill another vacancy. Republican Leader Hugh Scott filed to invoke cloture amid claims of a filibuster led by Senator Birch Bayh. If two thirds approve, a late Friday vote could occur. Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield will oppose the cutoff.

AEC and LSU Demo Californium 252 Neutron Isotope Use
