Aiken County to decide on zoning for outdoor sporting park
Aiken County Council will weigh a rezoning request to change 240 acres along Rudy Mason Parkway and Rushton Road from residential to industrial to build an outdoor sporting park intended for sanctioned events only. Residents fear noise and property-value impacts near East Aiken Elementary. The planning commission recommended denial, citing inappropriateness of the zoning, while a public hearing is set for Tuesday along with a separate vote on a sewer line loan and water system work. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at 736 Richland Ave.
