Dioramas show life in Aiken and nearby towns in June 1916 at the under construction Aiken Railroad Depot. Custom Model Railroad of Baltimore installed nine models on the second floor, highlighting Hamburg, Aiken, Blackville, Denmark, Branchville, St. George, Summerville and Charleston as workers finish the display.
Executive Director Peggy Ford says donations have fallen 70 percent from last year while demand grows for food clothing and utilities. The agency partner to United Way of Aiken County received a 15000 grant for a new bus and a Payless Shoes grant will provide 75 pairs of shoes, but the heating system must be replaced at a cost of 7000. The charity aids children who have experienced neglect and abuse and works to keep families together.
Aiken Regional Medical Centers staged a second floor sewer burst drill with nearly 30 patients evacuated. ATC nursing students acted as patients while five ambulance services transported them to ATC as an alternate care site. Over 300 participants and 11 drills this year marked the exercise as a success.
