An inquest opened today into the sinking of a pleasure boat on the River Thames as new safety regulations take effect. Police raised the death toll to 26 with 37 still missing, while 87 survived. Union leaders said crew members would cancel sailings until wreckage is removed.
U S Attorney Henry Hudson said Dean Ashley Lambey 34 of Richmond and Daniel Depew 28 of Alexandria were arrested August 14 after a six month probe by more than 100 agents in San Francisco Richmond and the Washington area. They face conspiracy to kidnap charges and are held without bail awaiting indictment.
