Two committees of the Aiken High School All Sports Booster Club will meet today at 6 10 pm in the main lobby library area. The Membership Committee and the Program Advertising Committee will meet today.

Mark Gaynor captures the 2000 Palmetto Amateur at Palmetto Golf Club with a 1 over 72 for a 217 total one stroke ahead of runner up Matt Harbin of Aiken. David Sligh posted 7 over 291 while others struggled in heat and insects at the century old course. Gaynor, Furman assistant coach, calls it a satisfying win after two years without a title.
In Louisville Woods outlasted May to claim his third major of the year. Woods birdied the final two holes in regulation then clinched the playoff with a three putt par on the third hole. May closed with a 66 but could not overtake the world champ.
Wallace in a Penske Ford captured his third win of the season at Brooklyn Michigan after leading the final 15 laps. Gordon and Stewart again tangled on track with Stewart steering into Gordon as Earnhardt Jr. was clipped. Stewart spun, Gordon avoided serious damage. Wallace beat Ricky Rudd by 2.971 seconds in a 3 hour race at 132.586 mph. Dale Jarrett finished fourth and Johnny Benson fifth.
Mitch Marchman tied the Regions Cup career wins record and set a single season mark by winning the WM Gregory Classic at North Augusta Country Club. The Waynesboro golfer shot an even par 72 to finish the year with a 145 total, two strokes ahead of North Augusta High School senior Scott Brown, and claimed player of the year honors after a season that included wins at Pine Ridge and Midland Valley.
