A man who claimed to be Samuel A. J. Hayden but said he used the alias Heavy Johnson in Augusta surrendered to Sheriff J. P. Howard. He said he deserted the U S Navy ten years ago at Charleston. Howard contacted Parris Island and Augusta officers to verify his record.

Sudden Death Claims 19-Year-Old Ollie Blease Blackman
Ollie Blease Blackman aged 19 died suddenly at his home near Talatha in this county on Wednesday at 3 am. He is survived by his father Mr. Dowdy Blackman and mother Mrs. Dowdy Blackman, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 am at the Springs Methodist church with Rev. Goodwin of Warrenville officiating. Interment followed at the Jackson Family Cemetery near the church.

Driver Injured When Auto Overturns Near Langley
Milton T. Newman of Bath, 25, sustained internal injuries and head and face injuries after his car ran off a soft shoulder and overturned on the Aiken highway near Langley while avoiding a machine. A Langley wrecker freed him and an ambulance took him to University Hospital.

Veteran Kaolin Miner Frank Henderson Dies in North Carolina
Frank Elmore Henderson, 75, veteran kaolin mine operator of Bath, died of a heart attack Friday in a North Carolina resort. He was a prominent Aiken County figure in the kaolin industry for over four decades. Funeral services were held at Aiken Presbyterian Church with interment in Bethany Cemetery. He is survived by his widow Kate Crosland Henderson and a son E P Henderson plus siblings and extended family.

Miss Hammond Slightly Better After Auto Accident
Miss Katherine Hammond, daughter of C. C. F. Hammond of Rathwood, was badly injured in a two car crash on the Augusta Ellenton highway last Tuesday. The University Hospital reports she is somewhat improved. Mr. Hammond and family members suffered minor injuries. The crash occurred when another car, reportedly driven by Black occupants, struck their vehicle.
