IRS Delays Plan to Abolish April Tax Deadline

The IRS postponed a proposal to end the April 15 filing deadline. It will not take effect before next year’s filing season as officials study concerns from taxpayers and professionals. If adopted most refunds eligible filers could file anytime until August 15.

Wing flap failure forces unscheduled landing of jetliner

American Airlines Flight 1058 with 87 aboard landed without flaps at Los Angeles International Airport after wing flaps froze at five degrees during departure from San Diego en route to San Jose. Airline spokesman Marty Heires said the Boeing 737 rolled faster and farther than normal with no injuries.

Best and Worst License Plates of 1991 Named

The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association voted South Carolina's wren design best, edging Georgia's peach by two votes in the ninth annual contest. Indiana was rated worst. Nearly 400 members cast ballots, with Nebraska third for a windmill design. Georgia and South Carolina dominated voting.

Tropical Storm Bob formed near the Bahamas and could strengthen to a hurricane by Monday. Forecasters warned Georgia and the Carolinas to stay alert as Bob is expected to hug the Florida coast and move northwest, with tropical storm warnings in the northwest Bahamas and small craft advisories along Florida’s coast. Former State Senator Among 7 Arrests In Rest Stop Sweep

Seven people including former state senator Herbert Doyle Morgan and an adult education director Seth Heimlich were arrested in an Anderson rest area on Interstate 85 for soliciting to commit sodomy. The sweep, involving four undercover highway troopers, targeted illicit activity at rest stops across the state as part of a crackdown led by Gov. Carroll Campbell's administration. Morgan, a former Democratic state senator for Anderson Abbeville Oconee and Pickens, reportedly served in the House earlier. Other arrestees included Brian Keith Stewart Jeffrey Neal Sim Timothy Grant Delbert Farley and Smith Anderson Gause. They were held at the Anderson County Detention Center with $1,000 personal recognizance bond each. charges are common law felonies potentially carrying up to 10 years. The cases await action by the solicitor.
