Parris Island heats recruits cue cool room treatment
At Parris Island a 60 degree cool room with ice water tubs and IV fluids treats recruits hitting 102.5 degrees during summer heat. Navy Lt. Patrick Wainright notes the method is crude but effective and used by foreign militaries and the NFL as needed. Fort Jackson saw a heat incident last month. Pvt. Matthew Nish collapsed near 100 degrees during a march, underscoring the need for rapid response and hydration.
