President Bush will reveal his decision on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research in a nationally televised address expected to last eight to 10 minutes. Administration spokesman Ari Fleischer said the president would not disclose the decision in advance.

An armed intruder entered 122 Fields Road near S.C. Highway 19 and exchanged gunfire with a resident as deputies evacuated residents. Donald M. Hamilton, 29, who lived there, was arrested on marijuana trafficking charges after authorities recovered 15 pounds of marijuana, $5,000 plus an automobile. He is held at the Aiken County Detention Center. Investigators found the drugs while clearing the scene following the burglary and shootout. Linda Simpkins described hearing the intruder enter and Hamilton urging residents to the floor. The incident prompted bloodhound team alerts and roadblocks on Highway 19.
Meteorologists forecast near century temperatures with highs around 97 to 98 in the CSRA and a heat index near 105. The National Weather Service warns of a 20 percent shower chance. Temperatures then ease to the 90s with possible thunderstorms and rain later in the week.
Twenty new UPS customs brokerage employees in Centennial Corporate Park undergo a four week training at CSRA Manufacturing and Technology Center. Operations manager Jim Anderson says the group will represent UPS to government agencies and emphasize customer service, computer skills, teamwork, and leadership.
