Familiar face returns to framing business in Aiken

Michael Smart returns to Artists' Parlor Picture Framing on Laurens Street after leaving Aiken for Florida. Aiken businessman denied bond on new charges

Park Avenue Automotive owner John Wayne McCord, 50, was denied bond on three counts of obtaining money under false pretenses. Warrants accuse him of taking over $9,000 from Carol Eby between June 6 and 20 to use for vehicles and household items, with promises not fulfilled. McCord has prior December breach of trust charges and is jailed at the Aiken County Detention Center.

Re enactor accused of stealing gunpowder

Oakley George Snipes, 21, a local Civil War reenactor and SCV member, is charged with third degree burglary and grand larceny for allegedly stealing 184 pounds of gunpowder valued at about 1500 from an SCV storage shed. The powder, used for smoke effects in reenactments, was recovered in Pelion and Snipes is held on 10000 bond.
