Aiken County Schools gain on exit exam
Aiken County 10th graders show improvement on the state exit exam with 87.6 percent passing reading, 84.4 percent math, and 86.5 percent writing. County totals reach 73.7 percent while statewide rates are 67.6 percent overall with writing lowest. Superintendent Dr. Linda Eldridge calls it proof of hard work and plans to review writing methods.

Two Die in Johnston Area Two-Car Crash
Two people died in a two car collision just outside Johnston on Friday morning. Willie James Stevens 57 and his mother Eunice Stevens 78 of Johnston and Saluda died when Stevens Ford Explorer and a truck driven by John DeCaprino Jr. collided at highway 191 and Old Plank Road. Lugenia Stevens survived with injuries and was treated at the Medical College of Georgia. Charges await investigation. Alcohol not believed involved.
