Early morning crash near Iris and Wrightsboro Road after departing Daniel Field. The 1998 Malibu Mirage fell after takeoff clipping a utility pole and striking a bus stop near the waterworks building. No identities or cause released.

Davis Acquitted in Statutory Rape Case
Aiken County jury returned a not guilty verdict after about 30 minutes in a case against Jonathan Davis 23 of North Augusta charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 12 year old. The state cited diary writings as the basis for charges while the defense argued the girl’s account was not a voluntary participation.

Mother of newborn found dead in cabinet charged
Krystal R. Middleton, 22, was arrested in Augusta on charges of reckless abandonment of a child after authorities found a live newborn girl dead in a bathroom cabinet. The baby died Saturday from lack of oxygen. Middleton had been hospitalized with severe hemorrhaging.
