Weather outlook across regions shows partly cloudy skies tonight with a 20 percent chance of thundershowers and lows in the low 70s southeast winds around 5 mph. Saturday 40 percent nationwide chance of showers, mainly eastern areas, highs 80s to 90s, with varied winds and warm coastal temps.
Governor Riley plans to name a replacement for Clayton C Boyd who resigned in mid July. Sen. Moore says a recommendation will come later this week. Boyd, appointed in March to replace Woodrow Wilson, left to take a management post with a former employer. He thanked local residents for their cooperation.
The state highway department lists almost 27.9 million dollars in road and bridge work with bids due for a 31.5 mile I-20 resurfacing from U S 1 in Aiken County to S C 6 in Lexington County. The I-20 project includes asphalt resurfacing, markings, and guard rails with completion by Oct 31 next year. bids open Aug 16 at the Town House in Columbia. Other Aiken County items include S C 39 resurfacing and guard rails, S-1991 street work, and S-2018 work on Airco Boulevard.
The Area 1 Advisory Council of the School District of Aiken County will hold its regular meeting tonight at 7 at South Aiken High School. The public is invited.
Clearwater authorities investigated a bomb threat at the Foxfire Motel on Tuesday night. Steven Idnani reported a caller claimed two bombs were inside and would explode at 2 a.m. The county sheriff’s department searched the site but found no evidence of a bomb.
The Aiken County School Facilities Advisory Committee will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the school district education center 843 Edgefield Ave. They will review a report for the county Board of Education on district facilities and discuss Area 2 subcommittee’s Aug. 2 public meeting. Reports from other administrative area facility subcommittees will be received.
The Area 2 Advisory Council of the Aiken County School District meets at 7 30 PM in the Mamie Chance Building North Augusta to discuss Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills results and hear a report from the Area 2 School Facilities Advisory Subcommittee.
