A group of local doctors plans a 79 bed nursing home next to Aiken Community Hospital. University Medical Center Inc. seeks a certificate of need from the regional health review board for the $2.5 million project. A public hearing is set for Sept 7 at 5 30 p.m. in Augusta.

U S 1 North Highway Widening Nears Completion
The South Carolina Highway Department expects U S 1 north widening to finish in September after two years and a $2 million cost. A final asphalt layer is due. the project expanded the route from two to five lanes in places. The western connector project is stalled due to unresolved gas-company conflicts.
