In Cleveland AP reports both sides halt benefits in a week long rubber workers strike affecting 60,000 employees and 47 plants nationwide. B F Goodrich suspends Supplemental Unemployment Benefit for 300 laid off workers. Firestone and Goodyear also stop payments. Uniroyal exhausts SUB funds.
The Supreme Court weighs whether Pasadena Unified School District must redraw its court approved desegregation plan to reflect shifting population. Crosstown busing used to meet a 1970 order banning majority racial groups in any school. After rapid white displacement, a district court said a new plan is needed.
In Beirut the parliamentary rules committee meets to discuss the election of President Suleiman Franjieh's successor. Assaad traveled to Damascus to confer with Hafez Assad and other Syrian leaders about the 190 member parliament and the election session tentatively set for May 4 subject to security. The National Bloc nominated Raymond Edde as its candidate, with Elias Sarkis seen as his main rival.
The forecast for the Aiken area calls for a fair day tomorrow with highs in the low 70s and overnight lows near the 40s. Expect similar mild conditions Thursday, with a chance of rain Friday or Saturday.

Sept 18 deadline. Election official Eugene England will verify signatures and administer oaths. Candidates must file expenses later with the county Clerk of Court.
The Bicentennial Wagon Train draws over 800 Arkenites in a Village stage show at Valle Forge with six Penn State Theatre and Music performers in Bicentennial costumes. Wagonmaster Harry Lee leads wagonists from Stone Mountain to Valley Forge amid songs and applause. The train moves next to Wagoner for a five day Wagener Festival.
Aiken City Council voted to file the final application for 299000 in Community Development Block grants at the regular meeting. The funds will be allocated 199000 for water and sewer work 70000 for storm drainage and 30000 for housing rehabilitation within census tract 214.
Rep. Cecil L. Collins of North Augusta launches reelection bid for a third term with no Democratic opponent. A former North Augusta mayor from 1967 to 1971, he is a Georgia graduate, florist businessman, and community volunteer. serves on key committees including Medical and Public Affairs.
