More than 40 firefighters battled a five acre brush fire in woods along highway 118 after a homeowner left an outdoor fire unattended. The fire spread quickly due to wind and terrain. No structures were damaged. State forestry crews plowed around the blaze and dampened remaining hotspots. Traffic was diverted briefly as crews fought the flames. DHEC will investigate and may fine the homeowner for burning household garbage. No injuries reported.
Susan Sebag a 37 year old of Aiken admitted using marijuana and crack cocaine just before birth of her son. She faced unlawful conduct toward a child and possession of crack cocaine charges and was sentenced to probation with conditions including treatment and counseling. She must report to the detention center by 10 a.m. Wednesday or probation will be revoked.
