Graham pushes SRS mission shift amid tritium budget squeeze

Graham warns of up to two million SRS jobs at risk by 1998 as the budget nears one billion dollars and most funds fund accelerator work in New Mexico. He urges moving more tritium funds to reactor tech, expanding SRS role to process and store commercial spent fuel, a plan opposed by state politicians. He seeks alliance with Gov. Beasley to use spent fuel as leverage for more DOE mission work. Local business leaders urge legislators to defend SRS missions and keep the site united.
