Pridgen Pushes New Campus Plan for Area One Schools
Area One board member Dr Durwood Pridgen released a plan favoring closing Laurens Street and Aiken Elementary to build a new 600 plus student campus on the Houndslake property. The plan would shift attendance to North Aiken and Millbrook while awaiting state guidance on Aiken Elementary.

Young Aiken artist publishes snake cartoons in Ranger Rick
John Paul McLendon, an East Aiken student in the SOAR program, created a dozen snake cartoons for a scrapbook. His grandmother sent the work to Ranger Rick, and after a 20 year wait it finally appeared in the January 1984 issue. He was surprised to be paid for his published drawings.
