Advance, Oct. 23. The foundation was laid Monday for the new garage and general repair shop to be constructed by N. S. Carters & Sons. The firm has used frame buildings but will raze them for a modern cement block building measuring 83 by 100 feet. Construction will be rushed to completion.
Indianapolis. The annual great council session authorized trustees to purchase a site for a home for aged members of the Improved Order of Red Men. Six Indiana cities are under consideration, with location to be announced after a final decision. New officers, installed by Charles Pass of Harrisburg, Pa, precede the opening of the Daughters of Pocahontas convention tomorrow.
Lena Jackson of Bloomington, and Mr. and Mrs. William Sterrett of Indianapolis spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lora McClain. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Stewart spent Saturday night with Lon Stewart and family. Mrs. Alta Hubble and children spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Stewart, Mrs. James Mangus, Glen Mangus, Mrs. Fern Fehr and daughters, Mary Janet and Helen Edith and Emily Francé Deckert of Indianapolis spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lora McClaine.
Mrs Endamile Starwalt returns to Paragon after an eight week visit with friends here accompanied home by E A Wright and family and Mrs Myrtle Smith. The column notes multiple visits across towns including Sawyer Wisconsin and Green's Fork with local families, plus a new window lettering at the post office reflecting pride and business.
A dense schedule of social visits, travels, and farm changes fills the Advance region as residents host relatives from nearby towns, attend church and sales, and report on road improvements. The Junior Missionary Society of East Christian Church hosted a Hallowe'en social at Rev Geeding’s home Saturday night with twenty five attending. Refreshments of sandwiches were served and the gathering was enjoyed by all.
Head injuries to Donald Airhart, first manager of Advance Produce Company, after dodging a box car to chase a struggling chicken. A protruding nail in the car struck his head, and Dr. Hall sutured the gash.
Mrs Carrie B Beaver post mistress travels to Deyton Ohio to attend a national missionary conference. She will fill one of the program positions as part of a wider missionary initiative prepared for national scope.
James Fink and family reside in a new modern farm house three miles east of Advance. The home is a prize for a farm. Willard Shelley and family occupy the former Fink residence and manage the farm.
Ross has returned home after spending several months visiting California and other Western states, concluding a lengthy trip.

The Advance basketball boys began practice on Monday and Tuesday nights with Monday marking the first practice. Their first game is scheduled for November 7 at Whitestown.
Police Protection Advance now provides round the clock night police coverage with an officer empowered to enforce the law. Street lights stay lit all night, a change approved by the council to enhance public safety despite some debate over costs and logistics.
Advance Oct 23 reports a successful homecoming at the Christian Church with attendees from distant areas. On Wednesday night November 12 Frankfort Commandery No 29 hosted Commanderies from Lafayette Lebanon Crawfordsville Tipton and Noblesville for a district inspection led by Grand Inspector General William M Sparks Rushville and Grand Generalissimo Theen. The Lafayette lodge received the honors as degrees were exemplified for the benefit of all lodges. A dinner followed at 6 30 in the banquet hall.
Alfred E Shockley a lifelong Lizton resident died at his daughter’s Indianapolis home Sunday. His funeral was held in Lizton Tuesday at 2 PM with interment at Jamestown. He was the father of Dr O ge Shockley of New Ross.
Mrs Carrie Beaver departs Wednesday for Dayton Ohio to attend a three day convention. Mrs Artie Hancock will assist at the post office during Mrs Beaver’s absence.
