The S. S. Lenape with 247 aboard foundered near Jacksonville. Tug Three Friends requested two signalers. Scouts Eugene Ellis and Charles Herlong from Troop 25 were dispatched to assist, spending three days on duty in line with scout ideals to help others.
Ora Russel Swindler born October 23 1890 son of James GC Swindler and Americus Swindler joined North Christian church at Advance in 1908 married Mabel Palmer August 12 1916. One child Rosa Anna Swindler. Funeral held at North Christian church Advance burial at Old Union. Bratton Wall funeral directors.
The Advance Commercial Club plans a March 7 lyceum event featuring the Cappy Ricks Company. A troupe of professional players, this headliner is touted as the best yet in Advance.

Obituary notes Jesse Frank Evans born 1659 in Port, dies February 43 1674 aged 63 years 11 months 1 day. He married Wilhelmina Teed in November 1881 moved to a farm near Shannondale and joined the Presbyterian church. He leaves an adopted daughter Mea Jesse Davis two grandchildren, brother John Evans and sister Mrs Nancy Bratton. known for hard work kindness and strong convictions.

Mrs. Jos. Graybill a longtime local resident died at her home after weeks of illness including a pneumonia relapse. She was born near Ladoga on October 7 184? and married twice, leaving three children, three grandchildren, and a great granddaughter. The community mourns her cheerful influence and church and social involvement.
The Hustler praises two large street auctions in Advance and anticipates a major sale on March 10. The manager will not allow bidding. any entered item must be sold. Public confidence and cooperation are highlighted as key factors behind the sales.
Ora Mc Daniel officiated the funeral at Old Union church near Crawfordsville. Providence choir provided music. Burial followed at the cemetery near Uniti church. Prof Ffit & Son funeral directors assisted.
Mrs. Graybill, admired figure in home life, died after her sister Mary Hannah Kesler of Crawfordsville, who passed seventeen days earlier. She belonged to the Christian church and funeral services were held Sunday at 2 PM at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. S. G. Smith, with interment at Ladoga cemetery.
James G. Scrugham, leader in the American Legion campaign for adjusted compensation and former national vice commander, has been elected governor of Nevada. Born 1880 in Lexington Kentucky, he graduated from Kentucky State University and earned a mechanical engineering degree before serving as dean at Nevada’s Engineering College and a state engineer.
A recording notes that the individual served on national and regional executive committees and chaired a special committee drafting the Legion plan for adjusted compensation later included in the Fordney bill. The detail highlights leadership roles within veterans affairs and national policy framing.
Across the nation Legion posts and their Auxiliary units raise funds at fairs and tent shows. In Buffalo New York the Brownshilde post Auxiliary booth sold out pink lemonade and candy within hours, with profits aiding sick and wounded veterans.
Theron Yager and Marie Shanahan visited the school while Kathleen Morrison remains seriously ill. The orchestra under Mr Higgins earns praise and the basketball team is set to perform in the weekend tournament. Almost half the students bought season tickets.
