Ruth Vidito of Lebanon is staying at H. P. Stephens. Several families visited relatives in Lebanon on Sunday including Mrs. Ray Babbitt and son Rus sell, Mrs. Vera Harshbarger and Barbara, Virgil Morrison and family, Lena Miller, and Walter Bowman with grandparents in Waveland. Visits extended to Jamestown, Indianapolis, Mooresville, Crawfordsville, Whitestown, and Lafayette as Rev. Lucy Sharp scheduled services and James Van Horn and family spent time in Mooresville.

Advance Woman 96 Still Active in Advance

Grandma Mary Ross aged 96, resides with her son William Ross in Advance. She marked her 96th birthday on Tuesday June 10. A devout churchgoer, she walks regularly to ensure attendance at the Methodist church and reads the Bible daily, preferring it over church papers.

Engagement Cancelled By Rev W G Higgins

The Rev W G Higgins of Oklahoma has cancelled his engagement to preach in Advance this Thursday. He previously suffered tuberculosis, recuperated in the mountains, and has since been unable to perform regular church work. His voice now limits him to whispered sermons, forcing his return home.

Junior Mission Band Meeting Sees Ice Cream Refreshments

The Junior Mission Band met at president Mrs. Roy McCabe's home Tuesday afternoon with attendees including Robert, James, Martha Howe, Anna Kathryn Wyatt, Verlin, Frieda and Oscar McClaine, George and Lula Bright McDaniel, Martha and Laura Graves, Martha Gene Caldwell, Mary Jane Yager, Gladys Wall, Francis Hypes, Wanda Plunkett, Ruth Burress, Nora McCabe. Refreshments of ice cream were served.

Town Preparing for July Fourth Celebration

Committees are planning a full day and night Fourth of July event with a baseball diamond and band. FE L Walker cafe owner and H C Epperson of the Advance Bank helped start the idea, with business leaders meeting Monday to set up program finance and publicity groups for a wide awake town celebration.

Greets Former Church Friends in Springport Visit

Rev. George D. Wyatt traveled to Springport last Friday to visit old friends and preached at the church where he once served. L. C. Anderson led Advance Sunday services, sharing a Lebanon background and marriage ties to Maude Foster. The Fourth of July plans were finalized by program, finance and publicity committees. Pure white lead and oil paint sold in 5 gallon cans at 3 dollars per gallon.

Berean Class Holds Friday Meeting At North Church

The Berean class met at the North church Friday night with a large crowd in attendance. Mrs. Beulah Riner teaches the class which is progressing well. The program was unique and refreshments were dainty. The Daily Vacation Bible School is in session and proving successful with attendance exceeding expectations.

A report outlines the regular Home Mission and Childrens Day program with a morning service next Sunday. Sunday school starts at ten, with class records to be made, then the program. Visitors include children from other churches who attended Vacation Bible school.

Fire destroys part of Cunningham and Bratton Feed Store

A Thursday evening blaze at 311-319 West Pearl Street Indianapolis damaged the Cunningham and Bratton Feed Store building. Furniture, feed, and porch swings from the World's Fair Furniture Company burned. the owner Albert Lieber held the property. Insurance partially covered the loss.

Lightning kills twenty eight hogs in barn blaze

Lightning struck Thomas McLaughlin's barn east of Beckville in Boone county early Sunday, killing 28 hogs. Neighbors and McLaughlin fought the fire and controlled it before major damage. Stock insured for 150 dollars with Continental Insurance. barn insured. building loss under 25 dollars. The McLaughlin farm suffered the same hog loss four years ago.

Jas Van Horn and Son have purchased the Ferguson restaurant in Thorntown and will move into their new Thorntown residence soon. The Van Horns are noted as thorough restaurant promoters and Thorntown is lucky to secure them.

The Advance Methodist church filled Sunday night for its annual Children’s Day program praised as the best in years. Dignified drills and a fitting special impressed attendees while the offering received commendation for generosity.

Woman's Missionary Society Holds All Day Meeting

The Woman's Missionary Society of the North Christian Church met at Mrs. Versa Reese's home for an all day gathering. A noon pitch in dinner served to over 80 attendees and a fine program followed in the afternoon. The thank offering totaled 40 dollars.
